Dr. William Lang

Dr. William Lang is a Consultant at Command Group. Dr. Lang is among the world’s foremost experts in medical contingency planning and public health response to biological incidents – including both pandemic and bioterrorism events – having served in critical medical positions at the highest levels of the U.S. Government. Dr. Lang brings the expertise of having developed health and operational safety programs during 26 years of service in the health and medical field.
 
Previously in government, Dr. Lang served as the Associate Chief Medical Officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In this capacity, Dr. Lang played a key role in developing the Department’s and nation’s preparedness and planning strategy for pandemic and bioterror incidents.
 
Prior to his time at DHS, Dr. Lang was the Army White House Physician, assigned there initially in 1996, and serving in multiple leadership roles, including Director of the White House Medical Unit and Deputy Physician to the President. In these positions, Dr. Lang served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Medical Unit, responsible for worldwide operations, including comprehensive healthcare and medical planning for the President, the Vice President, and their families as well as health services support for all of the personnel supporting them. Dr. Lang oversaw both classified and unclassified programs, including the coordination of emergency and urgent care services for the 5,000 staff assigned to the White House. Dr. Lang also oversaw or played a major role in facilities and contingency planning for the medical aspects of protective services, mass casualty, terrorism, pandemic, and weapons of mass destruction attacks at the White House complex and at other White House associated facilities.
 
Earlier in his career in military medicine, Dr. Lang was the Director of Clinical Information Requirements for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), including co-chair of the team which developed the first ever operational requirements for a comprehensive electronic medical record for the U.S. military. In a related earlier assignment, he was the physician member of the Army’s “Task Force Mercury,” a team chartered by The Surgeon General to develop the Army’s approach to managing medical information in the 21st century.
 
Dr. Lang currently serves as a consultant in preparedness planning and critical event response for a consortium of multi-national organizations.
