Mr. Phil Lago is a Senior Advisor at Command Group. Mr. Lago has attained national recognition as an expert in the fields of intelligence, national security, emergency preparedness, continuity of operations and continuity of government through his many years of service in the federal government—specifically the U.S. Intelligence Community. At various points throughout his 30-year career, Mr. Lago served in key capacities at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), and the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House.
Since leaving government Mr. Lago has provided business development advice and government affairs strategies, drawing upon his years of experience and intelligence expertise, with a particular focus on the design and management of operations centers and situation rooms around the world and the development of continuity of government operations and business programs. Prior to joining the private sector, Mr. Lago was appointed to serve as the Executive Secretary of the NSC. The Executive Secretary is by statute the head of the NSC staff and serves as Chief of Operations. In this capacity, Mr. Lago led the transformation of the White House Situation Room from a Cold War relic to a state-of-the-art situational awareness center supporting the President and his senior staff. Additionally, Mr. Lago oversaw major operational and technology upgrades at the NSC and was part of the effort to modernize the secure video communications package that allows the President to speak securely with advisors and world leaders, regardless of his geographic location. Prior to his post at the NSC, Mr. Lago served as a Senior Executive at the CIA, where he was responsible for the Director of Central Intelligence’s (DCI) continuity of operations and continuity of government programs, as well as the DCI’s operations center. Mr. Lago also worked extensively with the state of Virginia and the county of Fairfax to ensure CIA emergency action and contingency plans were fully coordinated with state and local governments. Additionally, after the attacks of September 11th, Mr. Lago served as a member of the DCI’s team that provided intelligence support and briefings to senior U.S. Government officials at various undisclosed locations. For his years of dedication and service, Mr. Lago is a recipient of both the Director’s Award and the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal. |
