CT Strategies’ Kelley Sanabria and Nastasia Bassili had the opportunity to attend the Women In International Trade (WIIT) 2018 Annual Awards Dinner held on May 16th at the National Press Club. WIIT is the Washington, D.C. chapter for the international Organization of Women in Trade (OWIT), a non-profit, professional organization that supports the advancement of women in trade.
Opening remarks were provided by Leslie Griffin, outgoing WIIT President. Griffin discussed her tenure at WIIT and the exponential growth of WIIT members she has seen in recent years. Griffin also presented many awards throughout the evening, including presenting Woman of the Year to the Honorable Kim Reynolds. Governor Reynolds was celebrated for her leadership in advancing international trade, particularly for her home state of Iowa. Other awardees for the evening included: the ‘Business Legacy’ award, presented to Orit Frenkel, ‘Government Service’ to Sophia Lafargue, and ‘Emerging Leader’ to Shantell Isaac. Griffin also spoke of the crucial role of trade, especially The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), in supporting the U.S. economy and promoting women in trade. WIIT will be following NAFTA renegotiations
Closing remarks were provided by Lisa Schroeter, incoming WIIT president, in which she spoke of the important work that WIIT members and the trade community do, and the exciting future that women have in trade.
